A Final Thought from Erinn

“Our Dream Flyers have a spectacular experience flying in the Stearman, and part of the complete experience is receiving a Dream Flyer certificate. Our flyers love having the evidence of their experience in hand and I get the job of making that happen. I love the idea that it extends their fun and unique experience when they get to relive the moment upon receiving the certificate.

“It’s important to us as parents and as citizens of this great country to bridge the gap between the greatest generation this country has ever seen and the youth of today.  Recognizing their sacrifices and showing our appreciation to continue their legacy moving forward.  I can’t think of a better way to do that than be a part of AADF.  I am so honored to give a snippet of my time to these amazing people!

A Final Thought

The thing I love most about Dream Flights is how our mission reminds our Dream Flyers of the amazing life they have had, how grateful we are for their service to our nation and that they can still do great things. Seeing that spark shine bright in their eyes once again is the most amazing and touching experience. If you ever have the chance to witness the Dream Flight effect for yourself, don’t forget your tissues!”

A Final Thought

“The foundation is life-changing. Not only for the Dream Flyer but also for the family.

My personal experience with my father, Eddie Lamken, is why I volunteer. After his Dream Flight experience, Eddie came back to life, enjoyed life and my entire family got a half-dozen more years to enjoy time with him. He passed away August 29, 2020, and truly enjoyed the last 5 years of his life – considering he gave up on life at age 89.

“I volunteer to help other families experience the magic of a Dream Flight and have the opportunity to enjoy time with their loved ones, learn things about them, and develop memories.”

A Final Thought

“As the communication director for a military retirement community in San Antonio, I was contacted by Dream Flights in 2014 and was offered free flights in a vintage aircraft for my residents. Not knowing exactly what to expect, I took eight of my residents, including a 102-year-old WWII vet, a WASP and a former surgeon general, to our local airfield for their flight. I convinced my husband, Tim, to go along with me.

“What happened that day was pure magic. My somewhat forgotten residents were now rock stars. They lit up when they saw the plane and were excited about flying. They were the center of attention. Everyone wanted to meet them and hear their stories. Everyone wanted to HONOR them. It was a day they never forgot and continued to talk about for months and years. I had never seen anything have such a positive impact on these veterans as did this simple flight. It was a tonic I wish I could bottle.

“Witnessing this magical event, my husband and I knew we had to be part of this amazing organization. As a retired Air Force pilot, Tim knew he wanted to use his flying skill to honor his fellow veterans across the country. And I wanted to use my skills in communication and working with seniors. It was a perfect fit. And so, we became Dream Flight volunteers. We travel the country to give back to those who have given, and we are truly honored to do it.”
